More good news from the PRS!

03-06-08

After last month’s news from the MCPS-PRS that their recent royalty payment was the biggest ever, another reason to cheer for many Sentric artists is news that in 2007, songwriters earned more from broadcasts and legal downloads than from the copyright related to CD sales. For the stat fans out there here are the main MCPS-PRS figures as recently reported industry magazine Five Eight:

  •  overall income was up from £546.8M in 2006 to £562.1M in 2007
  • collections for CD sales dropped 11% from £170.7M to £151.8M
  • live revenues grew 20% to generate £17.5M
  • money from pubs/clubs grew 4.1% to £40.4M
  • total public performance revenues grew 10% to £133.6M
  • international collections were up 10
  • online grew 54% to £9.7M
  • TV broadcast revenues were up 10.4% to £89.9M
  • radio income was flat at £49.5M

All of this shows that there are plenty of revenue streams out there and so being able to collect the royalties owing to you is more important than ever. If you’re not already signed up to Sentric make sure you do it now in order to get your slice of the pie!
